THE ST. LUCIAN
SONG BIRD
MIRIAM DRAKES
T he
Caribbean Island of St. Lucia is known among
its sister islands for its’ passion for
country music, therefore it is not
surprising that St. Lucia produced Miriam
Drakes – an inspired country singer. Miriam
the fifth of nine children to Albert and
Mary Drakes attended the Castries SDA Church
where her father served as an elder for many
years.
At age eight
Miriam began singing as a Soloist in the
church choir she mentored Skeeter Davis and
sang many of her songs .Her parents ensured
that she received a sound Christian
education by enrolling her at the Castries
SDA Elementary School and later the Castries
SDA Academy. Miriam enjoys blessing the
heart of others through her music ministry.
She
evangelized in her neighboring Caribbean
Islands of St. Vincent -Martinique -
Barbados - San Juan Puerto Rico a
Spanish-speaking country though she could
not utter a word in Spanish Miriam did not
allow the language to be a barrier to her
ministry, she made many happy through her
melodious voice and her beautiful smile.
In 1978 she
migrated to New York City and joined the
Sharon SDA Church in the Bronx 1998 Miriam
ministered at an Adventist crusade in
Mandeville Jamaica, and again in April of
2000, she sang nightly at a crusade in
Kingston, Jamaica.
In the year
2002 Miriam released her First CD Entitled
“HEAVEN BOUND” This CD has 11 tracks of soul
searching vibrating Gospel that is destine
to put her on top of Her musical career. In
the 2003 Miriam Drakes has now won the most
Improve Caribbean Gospel singer of the year
and in 2004 walked away with Song of the
year and CD of the year and still climbing
to that highest point of music as a diva,
which she has the talent to reach . |
